Human Resources policies

These policies govern personnel matters for staff and part time employees and certain benefits for all employees. The Human Resources policies posted on this website do not and shall not be construed to create a contract of employment between Indiana University and any employee. The university reserves the right to update, revise, or withdraw all or any part of these policies, including but not limited to the procedures outlined in the policies. These HR policies apply university-wide and across all campus locations.

Please Note: The Job Framework Redesign (JFR) has reclassified all of IU’s appointed staff positions.  The information below is the new staff employee group terminology developed for the JFR.

Staff & Part Time Employees

Non-Exempt Staff—Includes the following classifications:
PAA – Non-Exempt CWA, LE – Non-Exempt AFSCME Police, SM – Non-Exempt AFSCME Service, PAC – Non-Exempt Non-Union - (former non-union classifications of CL, SS, SM, TE, RS, NA, NU, PN, and GS), PAO – Non-Exempt PAO, PAU – Non-Exempt PAU

Exempt Staff—Includes the following classifications:
PAE – Exempt Individual Contributor, PAL – Exempt People Leader, PAX – Exempt Executive

Part Time Employees—Includes the following classifications:
HP – Part Time with Retirement, HR - Part Time Regular, HS – Part Time Student, WSU – Part Time Workstudy
