Scope
All faculty members of Indiana University.
A foundational principle of Indiana University is its enduring partnership across its units, including faculty, to collectively advance the institution's mission. The establishment, revision, and retirement of academic policies will occur with consultation and input from the University Faculty Council.
Policy Statement
Afaculty membershallprepareandpost ontheuniversity’s websiteasyllabus foreachcoursethefaculty member is teaching. The syllabus shall bepostednolater thanseven(7) days beforethe first day of any course.
Reason for Policy
Pursuant toIC21-38-3.5, afaculty membershallprepareandpost onthe university’swebsite asyllabus foreach course the faculty member is teaching.Definitions
Faculty member: Pursuant to IC 21-38-3.5, faculty member is defined as an employee of the university to whom one (1) or both of the following apply:
- The employee’s employment duties include teaching students of the university.
- The employee conducts research at the university.
Forpurposes of thispolicy,Indiana University considersall student academic appointees tobeemployeestowhom the syllabusrequirement applies.
Syllabus: Refer to campus instructions for elements of a syllabus.
Course: A course is generally understood to be a unit of instruction that leads to the awarding of academic credit upon completion.
